The Cabildo’s refusal to grant this agreement has a contrary technical report, because it would be equivalent to providing two subsidies for the same concept, something that the law does not contemplate.
Pedro Martín, coinciding with what was stated by the mayor, recalled that Arico receives more than 700,000 euros a year to compensate for the occupation of more than two million square meters, in which 1,700 tons of garbage are deposited per day. In fact, Javier Rodríguez, island councilor for Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change, signed the corresponding 727,000 euros on August 5.
Rodríguez Medina describes the words of the mayor of Arico as “foolish”, who he asks to “meditate on his assessments because they affect the 31 municipalities, which are what provide that compensation.” The counselor is convinced that Sebastián Martín “is capable of making any statement, however false or rigorous, to be in the media.”
A 2019 license
He accuses the government group of limiting the development of Arico by not having yet granted the requested building license, since December 2019, by a company that intends to invest 40 million euros to carry out “a plastic film recovery project.” It has the technical and administrative reports of the Cabildo. Javier Rodríguez assures that “There is a risk that investors will walk away stubborn and fed up to wait for him Arico Town Hall. We are in a situation of collapse. He affirms that they have not obtained an answer even through a motion.
“If we have to look for those responsible, here we can only look at the mayor. Sebastián Martín has to stop playing games and looking for headlines, stop the fireworks and get to work, ”says the Councilor for Sustainable Development of the Cabildo de Tenerife. Rodríguez reminds Martín that “serious and rigorous work gives good results, but the propaganda that he practices so much generates little benefit. Citizens need a serious, committed mayor who favors investment in his municipality.
He describes as “old” the perception of the Environmental Complex as a problem and defends the policy of the island government, in line with European guidelines. It establishes that technological development makes it possible to transform waste into resources, wealth and a pole of attraction. “The mayor’s vision is pessimistic and victimizing.”
Contradiction
The director stressed that the contribution of compensation for more than 700,000 euros “is guaranteed”, but the renewal of the agreement claimed by Sebastián Martín “was not rejected on a whim. There is a legal impediment and the mayor of Arico has not transferred any alternative scenario to us. It was only entrusted to a motion raised by CC in the Cabildo. It seems that he is more interested in continuing the policies set by the Canary Islands Coalition than in having his own stamp, speech and opinion. Absolutely nothing has been transferred to us. He has done nothing beyond having the most varied occurrences ».
CC demands compensation
The Cabildo de Tenerife must formalize a new agreement with the Arico City Council to adequately compensate for the damages caused by the maintenance of the Tenerife Environmental Complex in its municipal area. That is the approach of the Canary Coalition (CC) in the Insular Corporation. The nationalist councilor, Blanca Pérez, defends that “it is necessary for Arico to receive that money because they provide a service to the entire island.” After the warning of the Ariquero alderman in the same sense, Blanca Pérez points out that “the position of the Arico City Council and its mayor, Sebastián Martín, is understandable, since months go by and he sees that the Cabildo does not comply with his municipality.” Blanca Pérez recalls that in July 2020 the insular plenary unanimously approved a CC initiative to compensate the ariqueros. “More than a year has passed and the reality is that Arico has not received his due.” The CC-PNC counselor explains that the Tenerife Environmental Complex carries out an activity that causes inconvenience to the neighbors, “but it continues to be of strategic and essential interest to Tenerife, so it is fair that the Arico City Council be adequately compensated with the objective that it results in the quality of life of its population. “In CC they consider that Pedro Martín’s attitude” is similar to that of the municipality of El Rosario, which he systematically mistreats, denying him the investments that are necessary and that They were even agreed in the previous mandate.
