The reopening of the Indian Ocean street improves road safety in Punta del Hidalgo

The City Council of La Laguna has reopened the Indian Ocean Street, in Punta del Hidalgo, after completing the Repair, Adaptation and Improvement (RAM) works of the road, in which an investment of 137,302 euros has been made.

The result of the intervention has been visited by the Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, together with the Councilor for Works, Infrastructure and Accessibility, Josimar Hernández, and several neighborhood representatives, who have valued the new improvements that the road presents, one of the main arteries of this important enclave of the lagoon coast, since it constitutes the access to social, health and sports centers and the coast itself.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez recalled that “this was a very necessary action to improve the safety of pedestrians and road traffic in the area, due to the poor condition of the road surface. By intervening in a street so busy by residents and visitors of Punta del Hidalgo, we attend to two of the criteria that govern all the actions we carry out in the municipality’s road network: guaranteeing safety and improving accessibility, within the process of turn La Laguna into a universally accessible municipality ”.

Josimar Hernández has expressed himself in similar terms, who points out that along with the renovation of the road surface, the sidewalks have also been reformed to facilitate the transit of people with reduced mobility. “As a whole, the work represents a substantial improvement of one of the most important streets of the municipality’s coastline and is in addition to other interventions carried out for the comprehensive improvement of the area, such as the Las Furnias park, which is annexed to this route, and in which this year almost 100,000 euros were invested in its complete renovation ”.

The work comes to solve the serious instability problems that existed in the road, solving the bumps, subsidence and potholes that the pavement presented, particularly in the section between the La Costa road and Los Corrales street.

During the work, the soil contaminated by clays, which caused alterations in the asphalt layers, has been eliminated, for which the excavation in the area and the subsequent placement of a geotextile at the base was necessary to prevent future contamination.

At the same time, the accessibility of the street has been improved, since together with the sanitation of the pavement, the sidewalks have been lowered to facilitate the transit of people with reduced mobility. All road signs have also been renewed.
