González Fortes believes that this infrastructure is “essential”, since “if the new Masca pier”, which has just been put out to tender and could be completed in the summer of 2022, “does not connect with Buenavista del Norte, the impact of the opening of the ravine on the local economy will be testimonial. It will happen, as has been happening, that Masca will be associated with Santiago del Teide and not with Buenavista, which will remain with a very residual profit margin with respect to that flow of tourists that occurs in the second most visited place on the island of Tenerife ».
“This connection would be an opportunity for Buenavista, but also for the whole of the north of Tenerife. Right now everything is focused, perhaps unconsciously, towards the South. Even the bus schedules. Even the population of the North goes to the South to descend the ravine. This approach must be changed absolutely. If we connect the Masca exit with Teno, it will give a great boost to the accommodation and catering sector, and also to the knowledge of the rest of the Teno Rural Park, ”the mayor emphasizes.
The Buenavista City Council It will be responsible for the concession of the new Masca pier, which, thanks to the fees paid by the vessels that use it, will finance the personnel necessary for its care and future improvements. At the moment there will be two permanent jobs and a third person will be in charge of covering vacation periods or sick leave. A team of three workers who, according to the mayor, would also remain for the management of the La Ballenita pier.
For Punta de Teno there is a technical project from 2007 that does not convince even the Council nor to the City Council, since it seems “from another era”, in the words of the mayor. It is under review to eliminate proposals such as a three-story building next to the beach. “We want it to be a fishing shelter, with a crane, and for the dike to be rehabilitated so that the docking is safe, but without generating more impact,” Fortes sentenced.
