The Municipality of La Matanza de Acentejo In 1997, it created the first nursery school in the region, which is now 25 years old and can boast of being self-sufficient during the day thanks to the solar energy from its photovoltaic panels. The mayor of Matanzas, Ignacio Rodriguez Jorge (PSOE)recalls that «this nursery began with 10 places, in 2007 it was increased to 80 and currently there are 125. La Matanza continues to lead Tenerife in the implementation of Early Childhood Education from 0 to 3 years, together with municipalities such as Vilaflor and Arafoaccording to the report of the Platform for 5% for Education».
This municipal resource, which according to the local government “is highly valued by citizens”, became “a real shock in 1997 when, in a pioneering way, it became the first public nursery in the Acentejo region». From its original location on Calle Benavides and with 10 initial places, the educational facility has been expanded and improved over time on several occasions to adapt to the increase in demand.
«A quarter of a century after its creation, the current school takes care of little ones who are children of those first boys and girls who were cared for and educated in the initial installation, giving many neighbors a real opportunity to reconcile family and work life”, they underline from the Consistory of La Matanza.
Energy efficiency
As a complement to the remodeling carried out in the nursery in 2019, in 2022 work was completed to improve its energy efficiency, through the installation of 39 photovoltaic panels they generate for instant consumption 10 kW nominal. Due to the characteristics in the design of the property, with ample natural light inlets, good insulation, low-consumption systems, and its daytime operation, “the photovoltaic equipment in optimal atmospheric conditions covers 100% of daily consumption with solvency,” he points out. the local government.
