Tunte roasts. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) places Las Tirajanas, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the highest temperature in the entire country, with 37.3 degrees at 2:40 p.m. The Tejeda station marked the fourth highest national record, with 36.3.
The Canary Islands Government extended the declaration of alert for the risk of forest fires to Tenerife yesterday afternoon, thus joining the islands of Gran Canaria, La Gomera and El Hierro, which were already in this situation.
The regional government foresees a rise in temperatures throughout the Autonomous Community during this weekend, which especially affects the midlands and high areas facing south and west, with temperatures that may reach 35 degrees.
For this reason, the Administration demands that measures be taken to prevent a recurrence of the fires that have caused so much damage to the Islands in recent years. And, in turn, the councils have been establishing preventive measures. In this sense, the Cabildo recalled this week that “100% of forest fires in Gran Canaria are caused by man. We ask you for maximum caution. Zero sparks; Zero fire ”, collects the institutional campaign.
For now, yesterday it has returned to temperatures reached in the second half of last month, when all-time highs were reached. And preventive measures have been activated.
Along with the national maxims of San Bartolomé and Tejeda, other municipalities also suffered extreme heat. This is the case of Agaete, whose La Suerte Alta station marked 35.3 degrees in the middle of the morning. Also in Lomo Pedro Alfonso it was registered 34.4 degrees at noon.
On the other hand, the coolest temperature was felt in Teror, with 15.6 degrees at 6:20 in the morning. Only in Las Cañadas del Teide, in Tenerife, did the thermometer drop a little more, with 12.8 degrees.
The State Meteorological Agency also set the maximum wind speed for the day at the Gran Canaria Airport, which reached 51 kilometers per hour in Gando, followed by Tenerife South with 50 kilometers, and Fuencaliente (La Palma), with one less.
