SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The ‘We Are Lucky Tourist Bonds’ launched by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the public company Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias, have put eight million euros into circulation in the tourist accommodation sector throughout the month of August and the first week of September.
“This measure has made visible, like few actions before, an unprecedented strategy that this Ministry has implemented to encourage domestic tourism consumption, especially focused on the accommodation sector,” explained the Minister of Tourism, Yaiza Castilla, in a parliamentary committee, where he analyzed the measures that his department has taken to promote inland tourism this summer.
“We are facing a historic investment of 16 million euros to promote Canarian tourism, with an extended execution period until December 2021 that will allow mobilizing the internal market not only from summer, but also until the end of the year, when we expect it to be consolidate the gradual recovery of foreign tourism “, assured Castilla.
As reported by the counselor, up to this Friday more than 36,000 of the 50,000 voucher cards have been issued, of which more than 21,000 correspond to direct consumption in accommodation and more than 15,000 to consumption in travel agencies in the Canary Islands.
Most of these cards have already been activated, with a balance of more than 6,130,000 euros by the Canary Islands Tourism, an amount to which the beneficiaries have already added a global amount of almost two million euros.
Of those more than eight million euros activated and in the process of consumption, almost three million have already been fully consumed.
“Undoubtedly, this economic boost constitutes an unequivocal sign of the success of this action that is putting into circulation funds destined for the tourist industry from the public sphere and from the strictly private sphere of families,” Castilla explained.
In a context in which holidays have been seriously compromised, Turismo de Canarias chose to promote domestic tourism, which this summer has once again played a fundamental role in the Canarian tourism sector.
“A role that we believe will have an even greater path if we achieve a greater quantitative presence in the tourist establishments of the islands, an increase in the average stay or a greater seasonal adjustment in the internal consumption of the Canary Islands beyond the summer months That is an objective that we have set ourselves “, added the counselor.
50,000 FAMILIES
To achieve this goal, Turismo de Canarias made a historic investment to promote the holidays of Canarian residents in the archipelago with a strategy that was based on four pillars: a communication campaign for internal tourism with an unprecedented economic contribution of one million. euros, with the slogan ‘We are lucky’; the tourist voucher for accommodation and travel agencies, with 5 million euros each; and the stimulus line for complementary activities, currently under development, with 4.6 million euros.
A total of 50,000 Canarian families accessed one of the two types of tourist vouchers.
The technicians of Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias conclude that this measure may have had an impact on the decision to opt for inland tourism in around 200,000 people, if a typical family of four is taken into account to approximate the figure, and given that the bulk of beneficiaries travel with family or friends.
“We are facing a record level of coverage of an initiative to stimulate consumption,” said the counselor.
