La Laguna City Council is working on “the last steps to unlock the license for the management of the Constitution Park cafeteria”, as confirmed to DIARIO DE AVISOS by the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez. It should be remembered that this cafeteria, together with the one in Parque de la Vega, have been closed since the beginning of 2016 and, since then, the local City Council has been trying various formulas for its reopening.
Thus, after two tenders and a negotiated procedure without publicity that all concluded deserted, the City Council reported, in the last four-month period of last year, that a new businessman had expressed interest in managing one of them, specifically , that of the park the Constitution.
“We have a businessman interested in assuming this management. He has already presented us with a proposal that has been analyzed by the Treasury area, directed by Elena García, and he has been given a series of indications to adjust it to the characteristics of the park, especially in terms of the number of tables that he can have , the use of an awning instead of umbrellas, or the work to have an adapted service. On behalf of the City Council, we are going to modify the location of urban furniture so that the cafeteria has a terrace for use that is larger than the current one”, the mayor explained about the process.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez affirmed that, as soon as the businessman presents the modifications that have been indicated, “we will already be in a position to proceed with the processing of the file through the corresponding procedure.”
“It must be understood that the management of a cafeteria in a park has a series of limitations that condition the restaurant activity, such as the restriction of hours, the prohibition of serving alcoholic beverages or smoking throughout the park,” explained the mayor, which has meant “a difficulty in the process to tender these cafeterias, together with the health crisis of the pandemic, but we hope that this new option will finally translate into the Parque de la Constitución having this facility available again as soon as possible service”.
