The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Environment area, under the responsibility of Councilor Evelyn Alonso, has launched the webcam corresponding to Benijo beach, on the Anaga coast, since the technical problems registered with the signal, to which will be added shortly those that will be located on Las Gaviotas beach and on the Añaza dock.
In addition, the City Council has changed the focus of another webcam that pointed to some houses: that of Roque de las Bodegas. The opposition councilor Tino Guzmán (PSOE) has recalled on his Twitter account that the plane and the current resolution of the camera located at this point are different. A few days ago he insisted that “beach control, yes but not in this way”, since the data protection law could be violated.
“We are solving -announces Alonso- the problems that we have been encountering to incorporate as soon as possible the planned informative webcams, an initiative that allows citizens to see, in real time, the state and the weather on various beaches of the municipality”, says the councilor, who argues that “it is a service of public interest, both for residents and visitors, in which it will be possible to see directly how the coastal areas of the municipality are located and thus avoid unnecessary travel, especially in these difficult times of pandemic”.
It should be taken into account that from the Environment area they require that the cameras comply with the regulations, since they give a panoramic view and the images are broadcast in real time, without the need for custody of the cameras, nor is any recording produced. . “It must be remembered that the installation of these informative webcams on the state and weather on the beaches seeks – Evelyn Alonso says – to put an end to the queues and crowds that occur on the coast before the arrival of good weather and on weekends” and affirms that “now the population has the possibility of knowing the situation of traffic and parking lots, as well as images about the circumstances of the wind, if it is cloudy or what the state of the sea is.”
The councilor for the Environment highlighted on the other hand that, “in addition to the neighbors, these links from the informative webcams will be shared with the tour operators so that the beaches of Santa Cruz can be known and disseminated outside our borders ”.
