Repair of the promenade section of The cookies that collapsed during the afternoon of last Friday will be attacked this week. The works are of an emergency nature and the technicians have been working since Monday to complete the regulated procedures in order to contract the company that will carry out the works. This was transmitted by the government of the Cabildo to the Arona City Council, whose governing team hopes that the problem will be resolved in the coming days.
The island and municipal corporations, as well as the Provincial Coastal Service, have been coordinated since Friday to adopt the necessary measures that allow the return to normality in the area. At the moment, and since last Friday, the communication between El Fraile and Las Galletas through the TF-66 insular highway is only in a downward direction. The partial collapse of the promenade forces to keep the right lane of this road closed to traffic, while the exit traffic from Las Galletas does so only through the TF-652, which leads to the aronero nucleus of Las Rosas and Oroteanda-Las Chafiras (San Miguel de Abona).
The cause of the drop a piece of the promenade at the beginning of Las Galletas beach it is the action of the ocean at high tide. Something that is not new in this enclave. As a consequence of the strong waves that affected the Islands in the early morning of August 27, 2014 and in subsequent days, access to Las Galletas from El Fraile was seriously affected, and traffic through the area was also closed. A situation that lasted more than a month. On that occasion, both Costas and the Cabildo de Tenerife intervened taking into account that the area forms one of the access points to Las Galletas, as is currently the case. Users were forced to invade the road in their pedestrian traffic between Las Galletas and El Fraile, as now. The authorities expect a quick response and intervention, indicated those of then and now.
In 2014, the PSOE put on the table the need to build the Las Galletas ring road, a work that is still valued as fundamental.
