The economic reactivation is the current priority of the Círculo de Empresarios y Profesionales del Sur de Tenerife (CEST). Its president, Roberto Ucelay, assures that in the defense of essential issues «we have undertaken as many actions as we have deemed necessary, without fear and, sometimes, with more or less serious confrontations with the Administration and, even, with other associations or close circles. to the power”. In his opinion, “it is the price we have to pay to show that decisions cannot be made solely from the perspective of the Metropolitan area.”
For Roberto Ucelay, the organization that he chairs carries out its work with the premise that “the CEST tries to ensure that the South is where it deserves and is listened to as it deserves.” In the current situation, “there are sectors that are suffering terribly in this health crisis and that do not have the financial backs to continue waiting for the measures they need for their survival.” He cites the cases of activities such as day and night leisure, restaurants, shows and culture.
«They represent thousands of jobs, with many families hanging by a thread. It must be understood that the functioning of these sectors in the tourist space presents great differences with what happens in the Metropolitan area and, therefore, it is essential to adapt the rules and regulations to the different social and economic realities “, reflects the president of the Circle of Entrepreneurs and Professionals of the South of Tenerife.
Along these lines, he reflects on the current situation to affirm that «only with a strong and organized participation of the self-employed and of small and large entrepreneurs, will we have the possibility of contributing to a more just and equitable society, where the rights of all with equality and the importance of the south of Tenerife for the economy of the Canary Islands is valued ».
Ucelay acknowledges that the Círculo de Empresarios del Sur de Tenerife has been the subject of political accusation. “We have been maliciously tried to link to some political sign, but our story is clear. The sole objective of the CEST is to propose, demand and collaborate with the Administration, whoever governs, to improve the living and working conditions of entrepreneurs, professionals and inhabitants of the South ”. He defends that the work confirms compliance with the organization’s maxim, “to contribute well-founded proposals to existing problems, be more representative, join support and achieve greater participation from the maximum number of operators who have commercial and professional interests in our region.”
