The Cabildo de Tenerife, in conjunction with the upcoming International Fashion Week taking place from June 19 to 22, has unveiled a series of activities that aim to energise the fashion sector.
These events will bring together creatives, experts, influencers, and the general public to explore the entire economic and social landscape behind the fashion industry. During the presentation, the Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, the Minister of Commerce and Business Support, Krysten Martín, and the director of Tenerife Fashion, Natanael Padrón were all in attendance.
Investing in the Sector
Efraín Medina emphasised the significance of the event, stating, “It’s not just about fashion; it’s also about investing in the commercial sector and building synergies. This is our commitment to fostering creativity, talent, and everything the fashion sector encompasses.”
Krysten Martín also praised the extensive work done by Tenerife Fashion and acknowledged the great dedication to the International Fashion Week. “Tenerife Fashion is working hard to uplift the sector, which is crucial because we’re discussing a commercial blend that includes everything from gastronomy to textiles.”
The scheduled events are as follows:
- URBAN FASHION DAY. On May 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., The Duke Shop shopping centre in Costa Adeje will host an event featuring local brands and shops. This day aims to nurture talent and stimulate the economic growth of the participating firms.
- The Blanket, Identity Symbol. The municipality of El Rosario will showcase this event, which seeks to highlight the blanket—a key element of traditional clothing. This occasion will also honour Tenerife designer José Acosta, a member of the Tenerife Fashion collective, who has innovatively reinterpreted this garment in his latest collection. Vito Modesto, a craftsman known for Mantancaras, will also receive recognition.
- Tenerife Fashion Brunch. On June 7 in Puerto de la Cruz, Bodeguita Titos will become the site of an immersive day focused on sensory experiences. This will serve as a platform for sharing information within the sector, with fashion influencers and content creators playing pivotal roles.
- Master Class on Image. On June 9 in La Laguna at Tenerife’s mutual space, there will be a master class designed for young students in fashion-related fields. The focus will be on image and communication, featuring activities like a live shoot, where attendees will learn about the creative process from the initial idea for a fashion editorial to the final photograph.
- Tenerife Fashion Talks. On June 11, designers, creatives, and sector experts will convene in Garcia Sanabria Park in the capital of Tenerife. This free public event will address how fashion can drive creative, economic, and social development.
An Unprecedented Edition
In this edition, the Cabildo de Tenerife, through Tenerife Fashion, plans to revitalise the annual fashion event and textile sector. A key innovation is the change of venue, moving to the cultural hub formed by the Museum of Nature and Archeology (Muna) and Tenerife Space of the Arts, Tea. From June 19 to 22, this vibrant centre in the heart of Tenerife’s capital will host designers, showcasing not only avant-garde proposals but also works from Canary Island designers who have garnered critical acclaim at the Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week.
This new edition of the unmissable fashion event will span approximately 3,000 square metres, dedicated to catwalk areas, a Kissing Room, Backstage, Market Zone, and exhibitions. Additionally, a runway over 20 metres long will be constructed to accommodate fashion shows involving island, regional, and notable national and international guests.
The opening event for this International Fashion Week will take place on June 19, featuring the XIV edition of the International Contest of Young Designers. We’ll get to see the finalists’ proposals, selected by a specialised jury on April 2: María Calle Arroyo (Bilbao), Annais Yucra (Peru), Margarida de Rodve Gregório (Portugal), Constanza Souto Perestello (Portugal), María de Lora Pérez (Badajoz), María Sol Manzano (Tenerife), and Anaih Catherine Zarzo (Tenerife). One of them will be crowned the winner, with the aim of promoting their brand, facilitating entry into the commercial world, and paving the way for professional connections in the fashion industry.
Promotion for the International Fashion Week is already in full swing, with campaigns featured on Tenerife trams and in stop posters.
