SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 11 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The electoral campaign of the elections to elect the rector or rector of the University of La Laguna ends today, Tuesday, so tomorrow will be the day of reflection prior to voting, which will take place this Thursday between 09:30 and 7:00 p.m. in exclusively electronic format.
The General Electoral Commission will offer partial participation data at 2:00 p.m. that day and the provisional results will be known immediately after the closing of the voting period. The official publication of the candidacy that has been elected will also take place that same day through the institutional website www.ull.es.
In these elections, all the people who made up the university community at the time the electoral census closed on March 1 will be able to vote, although the weight of each group will be different during the count and a series of weightings will be applied to the results: In this way, the vote of the PhD professors and PhDs with permanent links has a weight of 51%; that of the rest of the teaching and research staff, 9%; that of the student body, 30%; and that of Administration and Services Personnel, 10%.
These will be the first Rectorate elections to be held electronically, following a system already proven with excellent technical results and security guarantees last November, when the partial renewal of the student body sector of the Senate was voted. The system allows an almost instantaneous recount, in such a way that, after a short validation period, it will be possible to know the results just a quarter of an hour after the voting period closes.
In this way, electronic voting can be exercised through any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection, entering the web address www.ull.es/vote and entering the institutional username and password. Next, the interface will offer three options to choose from: two corresponding to the candidacies presented, and a third for those who wish to vote blank. Once the selection is made, the system will ask for a confirmation of the choice made to avoid possible votes by mistake. Each user or user will be able to obtain a vote receipt that will serve as proof to know that their vote has been validly cast.
This voting system introduces more changes compared to similar elections in previous years: for example, there will no longer be face-to-face polling stations distributed throughout all the campuses, but the system will be organized into four virtual tables, each one corresponding to the groups that exercise their right to vote. Therefore, it will not be possible to know the results segregated by faculties and schools, but by the four groups mentioned.
All the information on the voting system is available in a specific section within the institutional website, while the results will be published on the page where all the regulations corresponding to these elections have been disseminated. Both are accessible through separate banners located on the front page of the institutional website.
