SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE APR. (Press Europa) –

The National Secretary of the Canarian Coalition Organisation (CC), David Toledo, dismissed on Tuesday the statement from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations to the Supreme Court regarding its inability to integrate the 1,008 unaccompanied minor asylum seekers currently in the Canary Islands into the international protection reception system.

In that vein, he remarked that it is “disgraceful” that the national government “continues to procrastinate”, leading to a Supreme Court decision that raises no doubts about the rights of these children and the responsibilities of the State Administration, asserting that it is shameful to continue ignoring the Canary Islands.

Toledo stated that “what lies behind this is a clear unwillingness to care for children and youths who possess rights.”

The second-in-command of the Canarian nationalists reminded that “the Canary Islands was not equipped to establish and maintain a reception framework capable of accommodating 6,000 minors and had to manage it alone.”

In this context, David Toledo asserted that “excuses are futile” and emphasised that “the institutional loyalty demonstrated by the Canarian government in handling the humanitarian crisis faced by the islands cannot be met with last-minute submissions to the Supreme Court, attempting to evade their responsibilities and leaving the Canary Islands and over a thousand children in jeopardy,” he concluded.
