Santa Cruz de Tenerife 21. (Press Europa) –

The spokesperson for the Canary Islands Government, Alfonso Cabello, indicated on Monday that “significant progress has been achieved” in the documentation process for over 5,600 unaccompanied migrants in the archipelago. He stated that the process is handled “on a case-by-case basis” due to various complexities such as age, origin, or the receiving NGO.

During a press briefing outlining the decisions made by the Governing Council, he refrained from specifically commenting on information reported by the newspaper ‘El País’, which suggests that nearly 90% of minors are undocumented. He described this as a “very complex” issue that cannot be simplified into a single statistic.

He noted that around 15 months ago, there were only five to seven appointments each week for documentation regularisation, but this situation has improved significantly, highlighting the collaboration from certain consulates, including Senegal.

Cabello expressed that a shock plan has been implemented within the Social Welfare Ministry, introducing 40 new employees to expedite the processing of these files. He has expressed satisfaction that the Executive has “mobilised” the State, adding, “We are in a much better position than we were,” as a “reflection” process has commenced at both the national and European levels.
