Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro. This represents the hierarchy of economic prosperity within the archipelago. The two easternmost islands, which rely significantly on tourism, boast the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in the area. They are the wealthiest. In contrast, the greener islands, located in the western part, have a GDP and lower per capita income. Consequently, they are the least affluent. The disparity between these islands, with the two capital islands situated in the middle, is staggering: a resident of El Hierro can be up to 33% poorer than one residing in Lanzarote. In other terms, the average earnings of the smiths stand at two-thirds of the average income in Lanzarote.
