The Cabildo de Tenerife, in partnership with the Northern Buenavista City Council, will be regulating traffic along Teno Punta Road (TF-445) from Thursday, April 10. This decision comes as work begins on enhancing access and improving the parking facilities in the area, along with creating a vehicle rotation zone and a walkway for pedestrians. As a result, access to the area will only be facilitated through Titsa Public Transport (Line 369) during the execution of the works.
The refurbishment of the Teno lighthouse, being conducted by the Ministry of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, Emergencies, and Tourism, is set to take 10 months to complete. This undertaking represents an investment of 1,646,651.60 euros, financed through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience initiative, funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU.
According to the Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, “access will be provided via public transport during the construction period to ensure safety. Although we anticipate some inconvenience, it is essential to manage traffic to facilitate the works and restore an iconic location such as the Teno lighthouse.”
Titsa Services
Regulating access to Teno Punta via the TF-445 road aims to enhance visitor experiences while preserving the environment. The Titsa Line 369 operates between the Guaguas station of Buenavista del Norte and Teno. The journey lasts roughly 20 minutes and offers a special fare of 1 euro per person per trip, payable in cash, by card, or using a ten+ purse.
From October 1 to June 30, access is available daily through the Guaguas Transportation Service from 10:00 to 19:00.
From July 1 to September 30, access is permitted daily via the Guaguas Transportation Service from 09:00 to 20:00.
Projects
The renovation of the old lighthouse is safeguarded by a collaborative agreement signed between the City of Buenavista del Norte, the current port authority concessionaire, and the Cabildo de Tenerife, facilitated through a cooperative effort among the departments of natural environment, sustainability, security and emergencies, and tourism.
The Faro de Teno will be equipped with essential services to accentuate the cultural and social significance of the Teno Rural Park. The renovation plans include providing water and electricity services throughout the facility, adapting the premises to accommodate either a café or restaurant as necessary, and constructing bathrooms alongside a storage area.
In conjunction with this project, parking areas for authorised vehicles will be improved, a turning zone will be established, and access will be upgraded to enhance public transport and ensure the safety of residents and visitors. The works will proceed simultaneously, with measures also aimed at beautifying the natural surroundings and minimising the construction impact.
Teno Lighthouse
The historic Fellor of Teno ceased operations decades ago; after 1978, the original light source was replaced with a more modern navigational aid. The existing structure, originally built in 1897, remains in excellent condition and is listed in the Lighthouse Catalogue as having heritage significance for Spain by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports. Additionally, it holds considerable value due to its architectural style, existing technology, and its potential for future use.
