Mousikê commemorates its 15th anniversary with a new series of Masterclasses alongside the launch of a Didactic concert cycle. This continues its well-regarded educational journey focused on Modern music. The programme, titled Tres Quotations, is set for February 20, 21, and 22, featuring a prominent figure from the Progressive instrumental rock scene, the Spanish guitarist and composer Juanpa Mejía.
Juanpa Mejía is a Spanish artist and composer who graduated in Jazz and contemporary music performance from Dublin City University, with a focus on Progressive instrumental rock. Throughout his impressive career, he has performed in various bands before embarking on a solo journey where his guitar narrates tales that blend his diverse musical influences. His first EP debuted in 2019, followed by several singles, culminating in the release of his inaugural album “The Last Shred of Hope”. His work features collaborations with notable artists such as Nick Johnston, Javier Sánchez, Shawn Tubbs, and Valeriy Stepanov. Additionally, he is a session and live musician, which has enabled him to collaborate with artists like Cali & El Dandee, Morocos, and Recycled J.
Now, at the invitation of Mousikê, he will perform at the Guiniguada Theatre in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Thursday, February 20, at the San Isidro Siec Auditorium in Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife on February 21, and at the Ex convent of Santo Domingo de la Laguna on Saturday, February 22, where the artist will impart his knowledge. The initial event will employ the didactic concert format, featuring the presentation of his album “The Last Shred of Hope”, and through the fusion of his styles, Juanpa will share insights on developing a personal musical language by exploring harmony and rhythm. These two essential elements of music not only lay the foundation for any composition but also provide ample space for personal creativity and artistic expression. Attendees will explore harmonic progressions and rhythmic manipulation, discovering new sound possibilities and the creation of a unique musical identity. Furthermore, he will conduct a series of Masterclasses titled “Exploring Your Sound: Harmony and Rhythm as Tools for Musical Identity” during his subsequent sessions on the island of Tenerife.

The Masterclasses are a production of Mousikê, which has been consistently developing numerous educational and musical practice initiatives since 2010. Beginning its journey in La Laguna, it has now expanded these initiatives to the rest of the Archipelago through its project ‘Between Islands’. The strengthening of its educational impact has also gained international recognition as it became part of the Latin American Association of Music Schools (Alaemus) over four years ago, along with engagements in countries such as the United States, Italy, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and Japan, where Mousikê has successfully showcased the music produced in the Canary Islands through its project Time (research on popular music evolution).
Acknowledging the inherent need in art and education to continually expand knowledge, the Mousikê association seeks alternatives to the constraints of our insularity. With firm faith in the Current Canary Musical Guild, alongside local initiatives, Mousikê has entered a social and global movement, identifying social media as the ideal platform for engagement. Currently, its YouTube channel (YouTube mousikê) boasts over 15,900 subscribers worldwide, accumulating more than 1,100,000 views and over 200,000 hours of watch time across more than 250 masterclasses, all offered by esteemed local, national, and international artists that have been conducted over the past fourteen years and continue to be accessible on this channel.
These Masterclasses benefit from the collaboration of Guiniguada Theatre, Government of the Canary Islands, Canarian Institute for Cultural Development, and the Autonomous Agency for Musical Activities of La Laguna (OAAM), under the auspices of the Department of Culture of La Laguna and the Department of Culture and Festivals of Granadilla de Abona.
