The Council of Tenerifethrough the Natural Environment and Security Management area led by the Minister Isabel García, has launched a special operation during the nights of the Perseid sightings, on August 12 and 13 at the Teide National Parkcontemplating as the first objective of this operation the safety of the people who travel to the national park in addition to the protection of the protected natural area.
“The excessive influx of vehicles in the PNT during the sighting of the meteor shower, as every year, can create a situation of lack of control, as has happened on other occasions, which is why we have established certain reinforcements at both fire-fighting checkpoints and at the information service”, indicated the councilor Isabel García.
“The sighting of meteor showers in the National Park is a traditional activity in summer, but this must be done in the most respectful way possible with a highly sensitive environment such as Mount Teide, on attending to cleaning and transit through places not enabled”, pointed out García, who added that, of course, “once again we ask the population for common sense and respect for the signs and instructions of the park staff”.
This reinforcement, which will be established during the scheduled days, contemplates the Extended hours of fire checkpoints and pickup vehicles with 400-litre water tanks, two Unimog trucks and two information service vehicles that will make rounds at different points in the park and control the capacity of the car parks, being able to limit access when they are clogged.
