Madrid/Santa Cruz de Tenerife 8 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The Canary Islands will experience partly cloudy conditions this Saturday, with some patches in the northern and eastern slopes.

Furthermore, the day will also witness the presence of light calima, which is expected to dissipate by the end of the day in the easternmost islands.

Temperatures will show little variation, and the wind will blow lazily to moderately from the northeast, shifting to an easterly direction around midday, with a predominance of the Brisas regime during the afternoon.

Cold, snow, wind, waves, rain or storms put a considerable part of the peninsular region at risk

In the rest of Spain, much of the northern peninsular area will be under yellow alert this Saturday.

Specifically, in Aragon, the province of Huesca will be at risk, and low temperatures will pose a threat in Teruel and Zaragoza, while Asturias will also be in a yellow warning due to the cold, along with the rivers, and snow will endanger Navarra.

In Castilla y León, the cold will put Burgos, León, Palencia, Soria, and Zamora under yellow alert; in Castilla-La Mancha, the provinces of Cuenca and Guadalajara will face risks as well; and in Catalonia, Barcelona will be under a yellow warning for snow, Girona will be at risk due to rain, snow, storms, and waves; Lleida will face a yellow warning for snow; and Tarragona will be under a yellow alert for wind and snow.

On Saturday, a weather system moving into the north of the Peninsula will shift towards the east, initiating a new cyclogenesis that will affect the Balearic Islands. The front that crossed the Peninsula the previous day will bring rain and showers during the early hours of the day, occasionally accompanied by storms, particularly at the eastern and southern peninsular extremes as well as the Balearics. These are more likely to be locally intense in the northeast.

Aemet predicts snowfall, especially in the Pyrenees, with the potential for significant accumulations, particularly on the northern slopes, and possible snowfall in other mountain ranges of the northeast at dawn. The snow level in the Pyrenees is expected to be around 800/1,000 metres but may drop to as low as 700 metres on the northern face. In other areas, it will be above 1,200 metres, rising rapidly throughout the day.

Maximum temperatures will decrease in both plateaus, the Pyrenees, and the Iberian System, while rising along the southern coasts, Alto Ebro, Cantabrian coast, and in the central system and its surrounding areas. No significant changes are anticipated in the rest of the Peninsula or the archipelagos. Minimum temperatures will fall in the northern half of the Peninsula, with predominant increases in the southern half, where these will be marked, while no major alterations will occur in the islands.

Frosts will affect the majority of mountainous and plateau regions in the northern half. Moderate to strong frosts are expected in the Cantabrian mountain range, north of the northern plateau, the Pyrenees, and in the Iberian and Central systems.

Winds will blow lazily across the peninsular interior, predominantly from the southern and western sectors, shifting to the northern sector by day’s end, with moderate winds in the Ebro region reaching strong gusts at the exit. Along the coastlines, winds will be moderate, flowing from the west in the Strait and Alborán, while southern winds will shift to the north in the rest of the Mediterranean, with gusts in L’Empordà and the Balearics from midday.
