Santa Cruz de Tenerife 7 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The Executive Secretary of Political Action in the Canary Islands, Carlos Tarife, has expressed on Friday that it would be a “great disgrace” if Catalonia and the Basque Country did not endorse the agreement established between the central government and the Canary Islands concerning the allocation of approximately 4,500 unaccompanied minor migrants.
“The Canary Islands urgently require the transfer of minors. However, if Catalonia and the Basque Country are excluded from this process, the principle of constitutional solidarity would be compromised,” he stated on the social media platform ‘X’.
The communities led by the PP—the Cogobierna Party in the Canary Islands—have opposed the agreement reached between the Minister of Children and Youth, Sira Rego, and the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo. They have clarified, nonetheless, that there was no prior agreement with these communities, although previous arrangements from the regions will be taken into consideration.
