The Council of Tenerife invests 107,000 euros in landscaping improvement work on the TF-42 island road link in the municipality of Icod of the Wines. This initiative is part of the Conservation, Improvement and Cleaning Service for Green Zones adjacent to certain island network roads“which attends spaces throughout the island with the aim of beautifying and improving the functionality of garden areas”, according to reports the insular area of highways.
The insular vice president and counselor of the area, Enrique Arriaga, explains that these interventions «aim to harmonize the environment near the track without losing sight of the criteria of functionality. These are aesthetic improvements, but they also aim to facilitate subsequent maintenance of the areas so that the work can be carried out with higher safety and lower frequency».

Through the call Plantations Program Canary bushes and palm trees will be introduced, species with a greater capacity to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2), to actively contribute to the fight against climate change and reduce the carbon footprint produced by transport on the island.
The Island Director of Highways, Thomas Felix Garcia, adds that “the place where these works are carried out requires an important intervention as it is deteriorated by the passage of time, and with some of the previous plantations dry or diseased”. In addition, he emphasizes the importance of “integrating species that have the capacity to adapt to climate and terrain conditions to ensure an increase in plant density.”
The lines of intervention contemplate at first the placement of a layer of stone material spread and compacted to prevent erosion or displacement of the slope, as well as placement of anti-weed meshes to reduce the frequency of cleaning operations. These tasks, which began in mid-March, will be carried out until next June.
