Santa Cruz de Tenerife 1 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The leader of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, expressed this Saturday that “it seems positive” that the common deputy, Lola Padrón, has commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the emergency department in the Canarian hospitals, specifically concerning the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) in Tenerife and Dr. Negrín in Gran Canaria. He emphasised the importance of “everything that promotes transparency” and that the public “is informed about what is occurring,” as “it does not always appear to be as it is.”

In statements made to the press shortly before the commencement of an insular convention of CC in Tenerife, Clavijo elaborated that “if we look closer, we are all aware that there are surges and that there are pressures. However, often, the management centres must make decisions regarding those who have overseen a service for many years but have been unable to deliver.”

Furthermore, he highlighted the “assistance” that this initiative from the common deputy offers, because what matters to the Canary Islands government is “to be able to serve the citizens.” He also affirmed that “in the emergency department, there are surges,” and that they “can allocate the services to always ensure they are ‘available’.” Consequently, he acknowledged that “there are areas for improvement,” that “efforts are being made,” and that in this manner, “we all need to pull together.”
