A new cayuco, marking the eighth irregular vessel to reach the Canary Islands this year, arrived in La Restinga (El Hierro) shortly after 5:30 a.m. this Friday with 21 occupants.
The Red Cross has reported this, adding that the migrants received assistance at the dock from the standard health protocol in such cases, which involves personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), and no transfers to health facilities were necessary.
This represents the eighth irregular vessel to land on the shores of the Canary Islands this year—four on January 1st, three on the 2nd, and one as of Friday—resulting in two fatalities and at least 454 migrants, as a boat arrived late Thursday afternoon in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the occupants fled, and three individuals have been located.
