SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16 December (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife has announced its involvement in the repair efforts of the Aguamansa Canal, which is now operational following the damage it sustained from the storm ‘Dorothea’ affecting the island.

The damage was caused by the severe winds experienced in Tenerife, prompting the Government of the Canary Islands to declare a maximum alert for the northern and western municipalities, as well as a general alert across the rest of the island since Saturday.

This hydraulic structure serves the municipalities from Los Realejos to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and, in turn, feeds the pipelines of the Victoria Santa Cruz Canal, Dornajos-Los Baldíos pipeline, and Unión Victoria-La Matanza Canal.

On Monday, technicians from the Natural Environment, Sustainability and Security and Emergencies department were present with the channel’s owners, who initiated the repair work.

Efforts on Monday were focused on managing the downspout of the summits, with further actions planned for tomorrow in the Vergara canal to restore the complete water flow.

Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo, stated that the Aguamansa Canal has been successfully repaired, allowing for the recovery of part of the water it supplies.

“The Aguamansa canal transports approximately 1,800 pipes, and due to the breakdown, around 1,000 pipes were not receiving supply, but we have already restored supply to about 500 pipes. We are endeavouring to achieve full capacity as soon as possible,” she elaborated.

Blanca Pérez, the Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability and Security and Emergencies, asserted that “the water supply to the population is assured, as the wind has lessened in intensity, allowing the canal technicians to access and conduct repairs.”

They also mentioned that they will continue to assist with the repair operations on the remaining channels and pipes to restore flow as quickly as possible.
