The organisation has awarded the restoration works of the property linked to the Insular Palace for 12.5 million euros.

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6th Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Tenerife has sanctioned an urban landscaping initiative that will be executed across 13 actions in 12 municipalities on the island, with an investment exceeding five million euros.

The main objective of this programme is to enhance green infrastructure, boost biodiversity, and promote landscape restoration.

These are specifically the initial steps of this venture, following coordination with the local councils.

This announcement was made by the president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, during a press conference held this Wednesday subsequent to the Government Council meeting, where she was joined by the Minister of Industry, Manuel Fernández.

Rosa Dávila emphasised the significance of initiating the landscape enhancement programme and highlighted the municipalities targeted for intervention, including Guía de Isora, Buenavista del Norte, Fasnia, Los Silos, La Guancha, Los Realejos, and San Miguel de Abona, among others.

The initial works are anticipated to commence in 2025 and continue throughout 2026, “reinforcing the Cabildo’s commitment to sustainability and inclusivity in Tenerife’s urban settings,” added Dávila.

Furthermore, the Government Council has approved the awarding of a contract for the restoration of the facades and interior refurbishment of the building adjoining the Insular Palace, with an investment of 12.5 million euros going to ASCH Infraestructuras y Servicios, with a project duration of 26 months.

In this context, Rosa Dávila remarked that with this, “a pivotal step is made towards the renovation of all buildings that form the administrative core of the Island Council,” and recalled that the plans for the construction of the old town halls have been recently assigned. These will include garages situated on the site of the adjoining building, “which will facilitate the complete integration of the entire block, recovering the image and augmenting the spaces of the island organisation.”

Consequently, once these renovations are completed, a restoration of the Insular Palace facade along with a refurbishment of its rooms will be undertaken.

ALMOST ONE MILLION EUROS FOR TWO MOTOR PUMP TRUCKS

In a different context, the Government Council has authorised the procurement of two modern self-pumping trucks, with an investment exceeding 940,000 euros aimed at enhancing the response to wildfires and improving the upkeep of the island’s natural environments.

During the wildfire season, these vehicles serve as nurse trucks, fitted with a 10,000-litre water tank, making them an indispensable resource for tackling emergency scenarios and controlling extensive blazes.

This acquisition has been facilitated through the Natural Environment, Sustainability, and Security and Emergencies department of the Cabildo, which has preferred high-capacity and durable multifunctional vehicles.

Additionally, outside of the fire season, these trucks can be adapted with a crane and hook for undertaking maintenance work in mountainous areas, forestry treatments, and other interventions across the island’s natural spaces.

These vehicles, with a maximum weight of 26 tonnes, feature three drive axles and capacity for three personnel, enabling them to operate effectively on challenging terrain.

On a separate note, the Minister of Industry, Manuel Fernández, provided details about the allocation of subsidies for the implementation of the Island Programme for Priority and Urgent Works, designed for municipalities with populations ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 inhabitants, aimed at enhancing supply networks.

This programme boasts a total budget of 1,595,650.08 euros, with a maximum subsidy of 200,000 euros available for each municipality. The municipalities benefiting from this funding will include Candelaria, Guía de Isora, Güímar, Icod de los Vinos, La Orotava, Los Realejos, San Miguel, and Tacoronte,” explained Fernández.

Among the initiatives to be undertaken under this programme are improvements and expansions to sanitation networks and enhancements of water tanks to mitigate losses, among others.

In regard to the Primary Sector, the Government Council has given the green light to contract for the execution of works as part of the project to improve and pave the Camino Vereda El Pinito in La Victoria, with a budget of 700,889 euros.

This project aims to enhance the functionality of rural roads, improve access to agricultural land, and bolster rural infrastructure.
