SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28 Oct (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families of the Canary Islands Government will have a budget of 762 million euros for the forthcoming year, which will be supplemented by additional funds from the State, aimed at enhancing the support for disability services, social services, and the elderly throughout 2025.

The proposed Budget Law of the Autonomous Community that will be submitted to the regional Parliament includes various programme contracts designed to improve human resource provision and ensure that citizens can access their rights.

Thus, Social Welfare will focus its expansion on three key areas – the General Directorates of Disability, Social Services, and the Elderly – with a commitment to increasing staffing levels to process the benefits available to citizens more swiftly. To achieve this, it will promote contracts and initiatives that expand the workforce and allow for a greater number of personnel to handle the applications.

This new personnel will complement the crisis plan approved in the Dependency sector to maintain support for the current programme contract, which is nearing its conclusion.

“This Ministry’s priority is to enhance support for citizens and ensure their access to rights enshrined in law. It is imperative to have the necessary personnel across various sectors,” stated Candelaria Delgado.

“Our goal is to reach individuals, making them feel valued and heard by the Administration, and for this, it is crucial to have staff capable of executing administrative functions,” he added.

“Additionally, the Ministry is continuing discussions with the State regarding extraordinary funds for essential sectors such as the poverty plan in the Canary Islands, as the current transfers from the State for these initiatives are inadequate,” remarked the head of the department.

“Lastly, it is important to note that the Canary Islands have had to formulate their budgets amid a backdrop of national uncertainty due to the lack of a State budget proposal,” concluded Delgado.
