SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Governing Council of the Local Autonomous Body of Bajada de la Virgen de las Nieves has ratified the regulatory framework for the recruitment competition for the 1st Sculpture Gathering on ‘Bajada de la Virgen de las Nieves’ Street, Artes Lustral 2025, during its recent session last September.
To mark the seventieth anniversary of these festivities, which have been designated a Site of Cultural Interest by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2025, the ‘Lustral Art’ sector aims to host, for the first time on the Island, a gathering of sculptors who will carve stone in open-air locations designed for this purpose, allowing the public to appreciate the artworks, which will be displayed for evaluation during the Lustral Festival on Avenida Marítima.
The aim of this gathering is to promote the sculptural technique and art, specifically stone carving, among the community by offering the opportunity to witness the creative process in real time, thus enhancing the urban sculptural heritage of Santa Cruz de La Palma.
The resulting pieces will be distributed throughout various areas of the city, with the awarded works being installed on Marítima Avenue in the capital of La Palma. This inaugural Street Sculpture Gathering is envisioned as the start of an ongoing initiative for future lustral events, with a different theme and material for each occasion.
The chosen artistic theme for this inaugural event is ‘The coastline, sea and land’ and the material to be used by the artists is basaltic stone. Participation is extended to artists from across the Canary Islands, who must apply individually.
A limit of three artists has been established for this initial edition, selected from those who respond to this call. Each selected individual will receive 1,500 euros as acknowledgement for the intellectual property of the completed and accepted work. It is important to note that this amount also encompasses the concepts of: idea, design, photography, and execution of the piece.
Interested individuals can find further details, review the guidelines, and download the application from the electronic portal of the Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council, or via the following link https://sede.santacruzdelapalma.es/publico/edictos/2024000139
