SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 25 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife, through its Foreign Action and Institutional Relations department, has formalised a memorandum with Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), specifically with the Tourist and Cultural District of this city, aimed at enhancing international collaboration.

The insular director of Foreign Action and Institutional Relations, Pedro González, states in a communiqué that this memorandum of understanding between Cartagena de Indias and Tenerife “will enable us to advance and expand our understanding of tourism, crafts, culture, and numerous matters that will ultimately benefit the general populace.

“We are committed to an internationalisation that connects us profoundly and facilitates sustainable growth,” he emphasises.

The insular director mentions that both parties are in agreement to initiate actions designed to develop strategies for economic collaboration between the Tourist and Cultural District of Cartagena de Indias and Tenerife, particularly by gaining deeper insights into the economic and business characteristics of both regions to uncover cooperation opportunities for development and internationalisation in the sphere of regional exchanges. They aim to bolster partnerships in renewable energy, transport, telecommunications, socio-health, waste management, water and sanitation, as well as in agriculture, and enhance cooperation in the areas of education and training, particularly to promote exchanges in education and vocational training, supporting the development of non-working professional internships.

According to Pedro González, the objective also includes the solidification of cultural cooperation broadly, with particular emphasis on artisan products, as well as the exchange of experiences amongst the diverse cultural networks and their member organisations in Tenerife and Cartagena de Indias.

He also indicates that the agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation in tourism and share experiences across the various tourist and environmental ecosystems and their member organisations in both Tenerife and Cartagena de Indias; to establish and coordinate joint information activities linked to research, development, and innovation being undertaken in both regions in areas of mutual interest, and to promote research projects, particularly focused on the prevention and combat of tropical diseases, as well as initiatives in Research, Development and Innovation in sectors such as agriculture, renewable energies, and water, fostering cooperation between Canarian and Colombian universities and research centres.
