The Cabildo of Tenerife has been nominated as a finalist in the National Crafts Awards in the category of ‘Promotion for public entities’ for its MIDA initiative, the Innovation, Design and Crafts Show held in Candelaria by the Insular Crafts Company.
This accolade serves as an esteemed institutional acknowledgment for actions taken by public organisations that are widely recognised as outstanding and exemplary in the crafts sector.
The competition will be between the Department of Employment, Business and Self-Employment of the Government of Andalusia for its travelling exhibition ‘Crafts with A of Andalusia’; the Insular Craft Company for the MIDA initiative, and the Public Company for the Promotion of Tourism and Crafts of Castilla-La Mancha for their ‘Artisan Legacy’ project.
The decision will be announced on December 17, as reported by the Cabildo in a statement.
Reacting to the announcement, Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo, expressed that “it is a matter of great pride for our organisation that a project like MIDA has been chosen for such a prestigious award. This not only implicitly recognises the exceptional work carried out by the Crafts area in support of artisans but also demonstrates that the Cabildo of Tenerife remains committed to enhancing its comprehensive support for the sector each year.”
Furthermore, the president wished to acknowledge the individuals who make this achievement possible.
“Today is a joyous occasion for the Cabildo, and we dedicate it especially to all the artisans of Tenerife who, through their passion for their work, are engaged in continuous innovation while maintaining their traditional roots, have managed to elevate our craftsmanship to the highest standards,” she stated.
In this regard, the Cabildo underscores that both individuals and entities, whether public or private, that have made significant contributions to the advancement and promotion of crafts in the past year were eligible for the awards. “This is yet another instance where the leading island institution has been recognised as a finalist for its exceptional efforts in promoting and enhancing the sector,” noted the Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, who also remarked that “this news arrives just days before the commencement of the seventh edition of the Tricontinental Fair of Crafts, a leading event in the crafts sector not only nationally but also internationally.”
Efraín Medina highlighted that, for the second consecutive year, the Cabildo is a finalist for these awards, attributing this success to the collaborative effort of a dedicated team, which he thanked for their commitment and hard work.
He further stated that “this organisation has always been a supporter of the island’s crafts.”
OPEN LABORATORY
The MIDA Project represents an open, creative, and dynamic laboratory designed to encourage the interaction among creative disciplines, research, and collaborative production. In this space, local creators, experts, technicians, and artisans unite to explore new avenues in artisanal innovation while facilitating the design of unique artisan products that amalgamate various methodologies with a shared vision of innovation.
This initiative is part of the Innovation, Design and Crafts project that began its journey in 2023 with the inaugural Innovation, Design and Crafts Exhibition (MIDA) held in the municipality of Candelaria in Tenerife.
In this initial event, participants were given the opportunity to visualise the strategic directions being pursued in the field of Crafts, both at national and international levels, through insights and experiences shared by invited experts during discussions and presentations.
