SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 16 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Official College of Architects of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro is set to commence the twenty-fourth edition of ‘Architecture Week’ (SA2024) from October 17 to 19, themed ‘Living architecture’.

This annual event aims to highlight how architecture can enhance both individual and communal well-being, focusing on sustainable designs that cater to the needs of individuals and the environment.

Architecture, beyond being a technical discipline, serves as a “catalyst for change” in our lifestyles and our relationship with our surroundings.

This year’s edition will involve the contributions of several renowned studios and architects, centring around three primary themes: experience, living, and materials.

These themes will provide a framework for exploring innovative strategies, ranging from the application of sustainable materials to neuroarchitecture—an emerging field that examines how spaces influence the human brain.

The sessions will occur in the afternoon (6:30 p.m.) at the COA headquarters, with no admission charge until the venue reaches capacity.

Mario Cortés, an architect from Tenerife, will deliver a talk entitled ‘Architecture is now written with axe. The architecture of happiness’, discussing how constructed environments can significantly impact the emotional health of their occupants.

Furthermore, architect Ana Mombiedro, a specialist in neuroarchitecture, will explain how developments in this field are revolutionising architectural practices, translating knowledge from the lab to real-world applications.

CREATE HARMONIC SPACES

Zooco Estudio will discuss the significance of designing neutral and harmonious environments. Meanwhile, Toledo and Heras Arquitectos will present ‘Living from the biological needs of the human being’, focusing on how architecture can meet these biological requirements, thereby reinforcing the concept that spaces are not merely inhabited, but also affect physical and mental well-being.

Enorme Studio will unveil innovative methods to optimise small spaces without sacrificing comfort, as captured in the title of their presentation, ‘Living large’.

Sustainability will be a pivotal aspect of the event, with Estudio Periferia sharing their perspective on project materials, asserting that “designing for life” is a fundamental principle for a more responsible future.

The use of durable and eco-friendly materials will be a key theme of the concluding day, which will wrap up with a musical performance, emphasising the intrinsic connection between art and architecture as expressions of human experience.

Claudia Collmar, presenting ‘Sensed space, towards a vital experience’, will explore the role of space and its effects on students’ educational outcomes.

In this context, the expert will share several practical case studies currently in the pilot phase in Barcelona.

Additionally, as part of this programme, the new COA Podcast channel will be introduced, which, aligned with this edition’s theme of ‘Living architecture’, will discuss the profession from various perspectives, including the humanisation of spaces, joyful cities, and the use of sustainable materials for creating livable environments.

Specifically, this new communication channel from the Official College of Architects of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro aims to bring architecture closer to the community.
