SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 22 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Insular Council of Waters of Tenerife has approved the budget for next year that grows by 25% and reaches 49.7 million, of which 15.6 million will be allocated to investments, 6.4% more, and which will consist of the execution of hydraulic infrastructures in terms of supply, purification and, above all, regeneration.

The Minister of Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez Medina, indicated that with the approval of these budgets the “Council will work with an ambitious budget that responds to the needs of improving the hydraulic systems on the island, and even contemplating the growth in the body’s own workforce “.

Among the main novelties of the document, he stressed, “is to allocate a million and a half euros for the drafting of projects, destined to respond to the financing lines of the European funds and the New Generation lines”.

Thus, Rodríguez highlighted “the drafting of the expansion project of the La Orotava Valley treatment plant located in Puerto de la Cruz and already pre-awarded, since it is necessary to provide coherence to the investments of the agreement signed with the public company ACUAES related to the collectors of the Valley of La Orotava “.

In addition, he clarified that this treatment plant “is working to the maximum of its capacity and as a result of the Acuaes agreement, more residual water will be received from the entire valley that will have to be treated and regenerated for agriculture.”

With this increase in the budget, CIATF will have a presence in projects throughout the island.

The counselor also pointed out that another of the novelties of this budget is that it contemplates a modification of the List of Jobs of the Insular Council, which will grow in personnel, to face the increase in activity and skills derived from the facilities that currently in execution it will have to manage in the near future, especially the 8 purification and regeneration complexes that are currently being executed on the island.

The total contribution of current income from the Cabildo de Tenerife amounts to 5,056,374.88 euros, which represents an increase of 6.1% compared to 2021, and represents a coverage of only 14.8% of CIATF’s current expenditure.

The rest of the income comes from the services it provides in terms of desalination of sea and brackish water as well as purification and regeneration for most of the island’s municipalities.

Revenues from these services for 2021 amount to 22.5 million, which represents an increase of 42.4% compared to 2021.

The income from Balten, derived from its participation in the regional hydraulic infrastructure management agreements, is recorded at 4.9 million, thus increasing this item by 61.8%, and all this because an increase of tourism activity much higher than in 2021, which involves desalinating more seawater and purifying more wastewater, which in turn generates more reclaimed water for irrigation.
