SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23rd May – The Cabildo of Tenerife, in collaboration with the Science and Technology Park, organised the STEAM Future Fair on Thursday. Over 1,400 students and 150 teachers from 40 educational institutions participated in the event, presenting 68 technological prototypes addressing contemporary societal challenges.

The projects focused on robotics and Arduino programming, electronics, augmented reality, video game design, 2D and 3D animation, gamified experiences, 3D design and manufacturing, digital communication, and audiovisual applications, among others.

Notable attendees included Rosa Dávila, the President of the Cabildo; Juan José Martínez, Minister of Innovation, Research, and Development; Efraín Medina, Minister of Employment and Education; Krysten Martín, Minister of Commerce and Business Support; Serafín Mesa, Minister of Youth and Training; José Manuel Cabrera, Deputy Minister of Education of the Canary Islands Government; and Julio Brito, Manager of the FGULL.

The STEAM Future programme, led by the Scientific and Technological Park of Tenerife, is supported by the General Directorate of Education Planning, Inclusion, and Innovation of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity, and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands.

Rosa Dávila commended the participants for their work and stressed the significance of fostering vocational interests in innovation and technology from a young age. She mentioned that it not only encourages creative problem-solving but also instils values like teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. “We also endorse such events to diversify the economy, as Tenerife possesses immense talent in innovation that needs nurturing,” she added.

Meanwhile, Juan José Martínez highlighted STEAM Future as one of the initiatives by the Tenerife Science and Technology Park aimed at promoting the transformative power of technology through conceptualising and developing functional tech prototypes.

At each project phase, the Tenerife Science and Technology Park and a support team guide schools to help students and teachers enhance their skills, knowledge, and values through hands-on technological experiences. A ‘Pitch Dating’ session was organised during the event at the Tenerife Adán Martín Auditorium, bringing together various prominent companies and organisations in Tenerife.

Representatives from each project met with companies to showcase their prototypes, their impact, and the vision for their projects’ development. The primary aim was to bridge the gap between education and innovation sectors and foster short-term collaborations.

Participating entities included the Young Entrepreneurs Chair, Blue Economy Chair, Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands and Cosmolab, Oceanográfico, Sociedad de Desarrollo, Red COE, Woooptix, SAO, Arquimea, Regenera Canarias, Proyectran, Icod System, Sergio Alonso Foundation, and Tajea Lab.
