The fog, which has decided to settle intermittently in the Los Rodeos and Guamasa areas during the first days of August, has once again caused havoc in the operations of the airport in the north of the Island. For the second day in a row, some passengers were forced to bear patiently the discomforts derived from deviations and forced cancellations due to a meteorological phenomenon that sometimes makes takeoffs and landings at the Lagunero aerodrome unfeasible. According to official data, during the day yesterday there were a total of 12 diversions to the neighboring Reina Sofía airport, located in the southern municipality of Granadilla de Abona. The affected flights came from Lanzarote (2), Gran Canaria (3), La Palma, Fuerteventura, Barcelona (2) and Madrid (3). As for the cancellations, these affected eight flights. Most of them were planned departures from Los Rodeos, with a total of seven flights affected: La Gomera, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote (2), La Palma (2) and Gran Canaria. On the other hand, only one of the flights that was scheduled to enter the Los Rodeos runway had to be canceled, specifically one that came from the neighboring island of Gran Canaria. In all cases, both cancellations and forced detours, the reason was low visibility.

Fortunately, at around 1:45 p.m. the fog cleared and visibility improved, allowing the airport to return to normal. It is necessary to remember that last Friday the fog also caused some thirty incidents in Los Rodeos.
