SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The deputy of the Popular Group and spokesman in the field of Health, Miguel Ángel Ponce, has demanded that the sanitary controls in ports and airports be recovered in the face of new variants, such as the delta plus, as well as the obligation to present in addition to the COVID certificate, a negative antigen test or PCR for passengers coming from countries with a low vaccination rate and / or high incidence of cases “in order to avoid a sixth wave that would derail the progress achieved so far.”

After knowing the data published by the Alerts and Emergencies Coordination Center on the 10th, Miguel Ángel Ponce alerted the Government that the Canary Islands is the Autonomous Community with the most cases of COVID-19 imported from other countries, “77 in the last 7 days, a figure that is well above the Valencian Community or Madrid, which, with 48 cases each, are next on the list. “

For Miguel Ángel Ponce, “it is not about being alarmist, but far-sighted, avoiding past mistakes and walking towards that gradual return to normality but always guaranteeing the safety of tourists but also of Canaries, taking into account our condition of insularity and our dependence on the tourism sector “.

In this sense, Ponce explained that the data “leaves no room for doubt and places the United Kingdom and Germany, our main tourist source markets, as the countries of origin of the largest number of cases imported by Spain in the last four weeks, with 221 and 102, respectively, so it is urgent to balance the economic recovery with the health one to avoid greater evils “.

As he recalled, “since the beginning of the pandemic we have been warning the government of the need to anticipate the virus and strengthen control measures, and what we have found is a relaxation and apathy of the Government of the Canary Islands, which has already caused that the cases of coronavirus in the Archipelago have doubled “.

“If this situation is not corrected, we could be just around the corner from a sixth wave and the Canary Islands cannot afford to take a step back again in the fight against the pandemic, because we are not only talking about possible collapses in current health services, – with patients from the emergency services in the corridors – but the impact it can have on the economic and social recovery of the Islands “, he concluded.
