The Santa Cruz Carnival 2024 contests, dedicated to television, started last night with the first phase of children’s murgas at the Fairgrounds, which was less than a quarter of its capacity at the beginning. The show, presented by Marian Moragas and José Marrero, gave life to the colorful and original stage designed by Nareme Melián, who debuts in this responsibility under the tutelage of the also new Festival Councilor, Javier Caraballero.
A year after Mamelones won the highest award in the category, the little ones took to the boards again to show that they still have a lot of fabric left to cut. The fans were noticed throughout the night cheering on their respective formations completely dressed in their sweaters, scarves and balloons. The children’s events, once again, showed that the enthusiasm for the Carnival is intact despite the lack of public and the little institutional commitment to revitalize the modality.
MAMELONS (1979)
The little ones from the House of Fear were in charge of breaking the ice and setting the level of the contest, which they left high with well-spun critical and childish lyrics and with an exquisite musical montage by Xerach Casanova. Mamelucos’ support and care for its quarry was noted once again in its two songs: a criticism of adult murgueros and the MamelFest, a musical journey that helped them continue criticizing.
GUACHIPANDUZY (1991)
The absence of Lara Coello at the head of the murga for the first time was noticed despite the fact that the little ones defended a good performance, which stood out for the use of the trumpet, good voices and how the murga enjoyed themselves on stage. With lyrics that were much more critical than usual in this group, even somewhat adult at times, they defended their proposals: a village of Smurfs and a fun influencer theme.
LITTLE BEAVERS (2006)
At the halfway point of the phase, with a somewhat fuller venue, Castorcitos arrived to take over the night with his beautiful cowboy costume designed by Josua Sánchez. Ángel Cabrera’s team raised the level of the contest with original lyrics, striking staging and well-constructed and argued lyrics. The little ones, who have been in the ointment for years, showed that a children’s murga is a murga with a capital letter. Their songs were a fun time machine and Los Castores, in which they became an adult murga to criticize.
TRIQUITRACHITES (1984)
The infantilmónica, who wore a pastry chef’s fantasy, gave a sweet performance that stood out for the presence of Johalet Ramírez at the helm, who replaced Emilio Foronda in the direction. The Triquis’ recipe was to have a great time on stage, maintain tradition and be childish from start to finish. The best moments were when they paid tribute to their parents and when they cleverly used the elements of a kitchen to criticize.
DISTRACTED (2006)
Responsible for putting the finishing touch to the night, they came from Ofra with lyrics by Airam Bazzochi, a regular lyricist of the group who has won numerous awards. Criticism was the banner of their performance and they showed that they continue to have the level that was assumed of them. His fantasy, by Tana Rodríguez, attracted a lot of attention with the stage lights during the performance of its two songs: que coming, que coming and Distreamers.
Tonight the second phase will take place at the Fairgrounds starting at 7:00 p.m., in which Retorciditos, Chinchositos, Lenguas Largas, Frikiwiky’s, El Cabito and Disimulados will perform, in order, which will close the penultimate event of the most little ones.
