January 5th is marked in the retina for everyone and, especially, for the little ones in the house. In the Villa de La Orotava a magical day was enjoyed with the visit of his majesties: Melchior Caspar and Balthazar.
The emperors of Easttogether with his entourage, arrived at the Villa de La Orotava around 3:00 p.m. and they took a tour through the streets of the town to the Plaza de San Juan, where the mayor received them. Francisco Linares who gave them the magic key that opens the doors of all the homes in the municipality.
Nearly 30,000 people enjoyed the spectacular parade that started at 8:00 p.m. from Mercedes Pinto Avenue, in an inclusive first section, without noise or din, so that people with autism or some functional disability could also enjoy it. The Kings conquered all attendees, big and small, with a delegation of nearly 600 people.
The parade began with the San Juan Bautista bugle and drum band, pages handing out whistles and flags, famous children’s characters, themed cars, seahorses, dragons and a ballet of wings and lights. The spectacular Avatar themed floats with a movie dragon, the Disney world, the Rio movie and gifts with a group performing in straight. To these were added those of the kings themselves, inspired by their countries of origin.
There were also Romans, centurions, puppets, penguins, illuminated bears, white horses, royal pages, Hebrew shepherds, dancers from different cultures, torch groups, tumblers, acrobats, jugglers, big heads, children’s characters, Peña El Casco fanfare… This year, Post Office staff were available to directly collect the letters during the route.
The parade started from Mercedes Pinto and continued along Emilio Luque Moreno and Canary Islands, Calvario Street and Carrera Escultor Estévez until reaching the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where the staging of the Birth and Adoration of the Child God took place with the Portal of the Living Nativity Scene, as well as the collection of letters for the children who saved it for this special moment . Throughout the itinerary, more than 1,700 kilos of gluten-free candies, 5,000 whistles, and 6,000 Three Wise Men’s flags were distributed.
