Two of the most popular trails on Teide reopened

He Tenerife Council has reopened the trails of White Mountain-Pico Teide and the Fortress Viewpointlocated in the Las Canadas National Park. They remained closed since last December 4 due to the presence of ice. The measure is adopted after the improvement of climatic conditions on the roads in the upper part of the Teide-Pico Viejo stratovolcano. Specifically, trail No. 7, Montaña Blanca-Pico Teide, has been reopened in the section between the summit of Montaña Blanca and the contact point between routes No. 7 and No. 11, Mirador de la Fortaleza. The latter has also reopened.

Three different sections

According to the information provided by the specialized portal Wikiloc, trail number 7, included in the Teide National Park Trails network, is located between kilometer points 40 and 41 of the TF-21 highway (the one that goes up through La Orotava) after eight kilometers from the Visitor Center from the north of the Island, or two and a half after the crossing for the Cable Car platform if coming from the south. Right in front of the beginning of the trail there is a parking lot with about twelve spaces. The route can be divided into three parts depending on the type of terrain it runs through and the inclination of the slopes. The first section is the one that leads to Montaña Blanca, a small hill formed by eroded extrusive igneous rocks with a characteristic ocher color. This part of the route is distinguished for being the most bearable, since the climb is not very steep and the terrain is in very good condition. It ends at the foot of Teide where a branch deviates towards Montaña Blanca.

Great hardness

In the second section the hardness becomes evident. This part of the trail meanders from the foot of Teide to La Rambleta del Teleférico located at the base of the final cone of the mountain. The third and last section is the hardest in terms of slope. It goes from La Rambleta of the cable car located (3,555 meters) to the peak of Teide (3,718) traveling along path number 10 known as Telesforo Bravo by the prestigious Tenerife scientist.

To La Rambleta

The same source explains that trails 11 and 12 can be done from the upper station of the cable car, in La Rambleta, without the need for a permit. To the west, number 12 is the Mirador de Pico Viejo, and to the east, number 11, Mirador de la Fortaleza. Both run along a conditioned and well-marked path, although the uneven surface requires at least sports shoes. The Island Corporation recommends taking extreme precautions when traveling along the trails in the Teide National Park and advises doing so with the appropriate equipment.
