SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The municipalities of Arrecife and Santa Cruz de La Palma began the celebration of Christmas events last night with the traditional moment of lighting the Christmas lights.

In Arrecife, the ‘Boca del Muelle’, next to the historic Puente de las Bolas, welcomed hundreds of people to enjoy the show organized by the City Council to welcome Christmas.

Since the afternoon, many families were able to enjoy this show with the seats provided by the City Council at the beginning of Calle Real, where the arrival of the parade took place with the performances of the Municipal Band, the members of the Lanzarote Island Gymnastics Club, swans animated and the escorted ‘Christmas Star’. The event was presented by Fran Vega.

Already at night, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, activated the Christmas lighting focused in the first moments on the entire perimeter area of the Castillo de San Gabriel and the Puente de las Bolas, two of the great symbols of the capital’s history.

The first mayor highlighted the symbolism for the city in this Christmas celebration as it coincides with the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife. Yonathan de León advocated that these festivities be lived in concord and harmony, and that all citizens and visitors can participate and enjoy the many events planned by the City Council.

Previously, from 6:30 p.m., a show took place in the Open Commercial Zone that accompanied the audience to the Puente de las Bolas, where the official lighting ceremony took place with the placement of the ‘A’ of Arrecife, by the capital mayor.

This year, 2023, the city of Arrecife commemorates the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality, and many of the activities scheduled for Christmas revolve around this important anniversary in the history of the municipality.

SANTA CRUZ DE LA PALMA

In Santa Cruz de La Palma, the traditional lighting of the Christmas lights took place, preceded by the reading of the proclamation of these festivities by Professor Facundo Daranas and the words of welcome from the mayor, Asier Antona, and the Councilor for Festivities, Raico Arrocha, to which was added a visual spectacle of 200 drones over Marítima Avenue.

More than 600 Christmas motifs illuminate the streets and corners of Santa Cruz de La Palma this year, using elements with low-consumption LED lights, among which 5,500 meters of RGB LED strip have been released with which, among others, have been decorated. trees and palm trees; a mantle of lights in height in the Plaza de España and the Christmas tree that welcomes those who arrive to the palm capital.

This type of lighting highlights the beauty of the streets and buildings of the municipality, as is the case of the 350 meters of LED lights that cover Álvarez de Abreu street (Trasera street) like a trail, as well as six luminous reindeer of different sizes installed in the surroundings of the grass and other unique elements.

To do this, the City Council has invested around 41,000 euros, a budget with which the material intended for municipal decoration is renewed, thus betting on sustainability and energy improvement.

There is also no shortage of childish winks in the Christmas decorations in Santa Cruz de La Palma, in which along with large gifts, Christmas balls or the traditional figures of SSMM the Three Wise Men of the East, the streets surprise with characters from well-known drawings animated from the Disney world.
