La Orotava is already experiencing Christmas. This Friday, November 24, the inauguration ceremony of the nativity scene in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento took place, which in turn is located within the municipality’s Nativity Scene Route, the most important in the Canary Islands. This portal, with life-size figures, represents the ancient Hebrew market and has about 25 stalls and new scenes. It can be visited until January 6, 24 hours a day.

During the event, which had a large audience as usual, several musical and dance performances took place, in addition to staging a representation of the importance of living Christmas as a family, and how it can be shared with young people and more. little ones in the house. After this staging, a group of young people participating in the event proceeded, accompanied by Mayor Francisco Linares and Fiestas Councilor Alexis Pacheco, to press the button with which the spectacular ornamental lighting of the urban center of La Orotava was turned on. Thousands of people enjoyed the great atmosphere and Christmas decorations in the streets of the town, as well as the event that took place in the Plaza de la Constitución, ‘Tapas with chestnuts’, on the occasion of the San Andrés festival.

This year the arches on Carrera Escultor Estévez Street and Plaza de la Constitución stand out. In the central area there are more than a hundred Christmas light motifs and as many arches, as well as more than a thousand meters of rosary and curtains, and about 6,000 meters of garlands. In the neighborhoods there are also about 60 arches, fifty stars and happy holidays and a hundred allegorical elements of Christmas. In addition, there are several illuminated Christmas elements in the streets and squares, as well as access areas to the municipality, and also several photocalls. On the other hand, some 5,000 Easter flowers have been placed throughout the municipality to further beautify La Orotava.

The theme in the historic complex focuses on angels, Christmas trees, stars, snowflakes, balls, garlands, sleighs, reindeer, gifts… In the neighborhoods and the urban center, the lighting elements related to Christmas have increased. It is noteworthy that all lighting in the municipality is low consumption.

The Christmas decoration contributes to enjoying this municipality, walking through its streets, shopping, and also the gastronomy, the heritage…
