SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, Lady Barreto, announced this Thursday in the Parliament of the Canary Islands that the Executive has purchased two radiological devices to speed up bone tests to determine the age of migrant minors.

In response to a question from Vox in the parliamentary committee, it has framed this acquisition in the agreement signed with the Superior Prosecutor’s Office of the Canary Islands, to which is added an interpreter, two reinforcement officials and an improvement in the ratio of public defenders.

Barreto explained that it is an orthopantomograph that allows a study of the dental cavity, which has been destined for the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and that the purchase of another unit for the IML has already been processed. from Las Palmas.

The counselor has pointed out that in order to issue the age determination report, radiographic study tests of the hand and wrist, as well as the oral cavity through dental orthopantomography, must first be carried out.

In this sense, he has stated that these tests are being carried out in public centers with the appropriate technology for this, although neither the determination nor the frequency with which the tests should be carried out corresponds to his department.

Likewise, in relation to the migratory phenomenon suffered by the island of El Hierro, he recalled that the Vice-Ministry of Justice has already issued two resolutions to expand coverage and guarantee the quality of the official shift on the island.

Barreto has highlighted that in the month of October a response was given to a demand from the Tenerife Bar Association to compensate the travel costs of the lawyers who cover the immigration shift in terms of food and accommodation and that in this month of November has issued a resolution to guarantee the quality of legal assistance by increasing the number of people who can serve.

“A request for a quota that comes from the Bar Association itself and the Government Delegation and that this department considers as a temporary and exceptional measure in the face of the migratory pressure that the island is suffering,” he noted.

The counselor has insisted that “the most urgent thing” is to get “adequate care” for migrant minors, some 4,700 in the Canary Islands, and that it is not “out of solidarity” given that the Canary Islands have already spent some 80 million euros this year and The 50 million subsidy from the central government has not yet been paid.

He has pointed out that emigration “will continue to exist” and we must be “prepared” for which he has once again demanded a single immigration command to improve coordination and that the distribution of minors be done legally.

VOX REQUESTS THAT THE TESTS BE “IMMEDIATE”

Paula Jover (Vox) has commented that the Canary Islands has a network of 54 resources to care for about 1,500 minors and now has 4,700 under guardianship, of which 3,000 are waiting for the Prosecutor’s Office to certify their age, a process that can last ” up to five months.”

He has indicated that many of the migrant minors end up being adults with an expulsion process, which is why he has urged that the age tests be “immediate” since the rights of the minors are not being respected, who in any case, “must be with their parents.” “I hope these measures can catch us up,” she added.
