Postal workers denounce that “the lack of personnel keeps thousands of postal shipments blocked throughout the Island.” It is raised by Pedro Segura, regional secretary of the postal sector of Workers’ Commissions. For this reason, after a mobilization this week in Aronathe Taco Unit employeesBig Ravineone of the largest on the Island, will gather next Monday, at 8:30 a.m., “against staff cuts” and “the management of Production Management”, which they accuse of “lack of leadership, poor coordination and planning that causes chaos in the distribution units.”
CCOO does not dare to give a specific overall number of shipments pending distribution in Tenerifebut only in the Special Services Unit (USE), which distributes in the Metropolitan Area and the municipalities of El Rosario, Candelaria, Güímar and Tegueste, «There are approximately 20,000 packages pending registration in the unit and without being distributed». Apart from “another 1,500 registered.” Segura adds that “the client checks his shipment on the Correos website and says that he has arrived in Tenerife, but he is left in limbo, since he does not appear anywhere for weeks and, in some cases, months.”
Given the user’s logical claim, “the colleagues who serve the public also do not know what to tell them or how to guide them, because when they consult the system there is no data.” Segura criticizes “a policy of cuts and terror in the company which has caused unprecedented labor conflict in Tenerife and in Canary Islands»,
That of the USE “is not the only case, but it is the most bleeding along with the South units – the calculation is 15,000 pending notifications only in Arona, Adeje and Granadilla de Abona–”, says the union member. He emphasizes that «The problem occurs throughout the Canary Islands and it happens due to the lack of hiring. He gives the example of the La Laguna Unit, “where at the beginning of the week they had 21 unfilled positions and the usual trend during the year is that between 15 and 18 workers are missing.” In the Taco-Barranco Grande Unit “the situation is also extreme and the colleagues want to go out and demonstrate because of the conditions to which they are subjected daily.”
Segura indicates that “they talk about staff reinforcements, but the vast majority is about consolidation of positions that already existed and not new contracts.”
The difficulties also reach the Automated Treatment Logistics Center (CTA) of Las Torres Taco), “with staff who have unaffordable workloads and an accumulation of packages that are not sent to the units because they no longer fit.”
The problem is so serious that «The staff of the offices that serve the public, the salespeople or the colleagues at the customs headquarters no longer know what to say to clients. in the face of their continuous complaints, day after day.
Segura gives an example: «A shipment within Santa Cruz takes more than 15 days, when in the same city they should arrive in just one. Even, he adds, “there are cases of citizens who have not received their packages for months, packages that were sent in August and arrive now.” And, he values, “you cannot blame the customs procedure, because it also happens in packages that do not have to go through it.”
«Not registering shipments is a serious problem for Mail, because the client pays for that traceability that is not being provided and it is a public company,” summarizes Segura. He concludes: “This problem also occurs with the rest of the products, something especially serious with notifications from public organizations, which have deadlines that if not met can create serious harm to citizens.”
An example, always according to Workers’ Commissions, from last Wednesday: in the Taco-Barranco Grande Unit, 200 postal packages, 1,600 notifications and 4,000 ordinary letters were pending delivery.
Everything works “normally”
“The Post Office service operates normally in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.” This is how the company expresses itself, adding: “The necessary staff is available and appropriate to the volume of production.” In a statement, Correos assures that it takes “the necessary measures to organize work based on the daily needs in its units.” As a public company, “it has the obligation to efficiently allocate its resources, both human, logistical and technological.” Therefore, depending on production, which fluctuates, “it adapts its workforce and structure to the level of real activity.” Correos understands that “the volume of shipments pending delivery is within normal limits and the quality deadlines committed to customers are met.” Remember that “171 employees have joined the centers in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.” | JDM
