The holiday rental asks to enter the Canary Islands tourism strategy

These are the main conclusions of the congress held in Adeje that Ascav summarizes in a decalogue. Among them is that the holiday home model “plays a fundamental role in the recovery of destinations.” Thus, “Must be incorporated into the planning, management and promotion of modern tourist destinations.” In line with the relevance of the activity, the congress served to demand that «governments and institutions» «recognize local and regional associations of holiday homes as the only valid interlocutors, so that all rules and regulations be consensual and reconciled ”. At the meeting, the sector pledged to “give an effective response to the demands of quality and excellence and to be in tune with the brands of each destination.”

The conclusions of the Congress held in Adeje were disseminated in more than 80 countries. Before them, the sector acquired the responsibility of “creating synergies and collaborations with the rest of the sectors – primary, leisure, commerce, restaurants, etc. – to promote maximum economic permeability to the rest of the actors in the destinations.” The tourist rental pledged to promote sustainability, accessibility and economic-social permeability, as well as to “establish an observatory of holiday homes, in collaboration with different universities worldwide, for better global traceability.”

The decalogue that emerged from the international congress also establishes that the tourism sector should not fall into a excessive dependence on large technology intermediaries, that it is necessary to prevent large corporations and homeowners from operating with the regulations of small private owners of vacation homes and that future laws and regulations of the European Union regulations for short-term rentals must homogenize the activity in all countries members.

The I International Congress of Vacational Housing brought together the maximum canarian institutional representation, the World Tourism Organization, the World Tourism Network organization, Costa Rican and Guatemalan Chambers of Tourism, the National Markets and Competition Commission, the Responsible Tourism Institute, national and international universities or representatives of the Ibiza sector, Galicia and Valencia. The president of the Ascav, Doris Borrego, thanked the high participation and the support of the public administrations.
