The Cabildo of Tenerife has put on public display the project for the execution of the direct lanes that will give access to the Güímar Industrial Estate, as published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) in its edition of last Monday, September 25. The actions, which have a budget of 2.2 million euros, will consist of the modification of the branches and the construction of two new direct links to the Polígono, which is owned by the three town councils of the region (Arafo, Candelaria and Güímar).

These lanes have been a demand from both the mayors of the Güímar Valley and the business association, which includes more than 250 companies in the area, who have been waiting for a long time for a solution to the continuous traffic jams that occur at the entrance and Exit to the Polygon from TF-1.

The Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, explained that the successive expansions of the Polígono Valle de Güímar mean that traffic has increased very significantly.

The latest additions of commercial spaces in the Polígono, as well as in the new Polígono El Carretón, without having their own access and exit roads to the TF-1 highway, have meant that traffic is frequently backed up, hence it is “ “It is important to act on the link, in order to provide it with direct links that release part of the traffic load that the two existing roundabouts receive.”

The project proposes to execute several direct lanes in the roundabouts of the Arafo interchange. On the one hand, a direct lane from the TF-281 towards the TF-1 heading south, in addition to another direct lane from the TF-1 (Santa Cruz) towards the El Carretón Industrial Estate, while on the coastal side it is contemplated two lanes from the Polígono Valle de Güímar towards the TF-1 (direction Santa Cruz) and one direct lane from the TF-1 (South) towards the Polígono. This will solve a serious problem of vehicle saturation, but the modification of the entire area remains pending once the project to expand the third lane of the TF-1 from there to San Isidro is approved, the Highway Councilor of the Cabildo, Dámaso Arteaga.

The project will remain on public display for a period of 20 business days from the day following its publication in the Official Gazette of the Province.

Oroteanda-Chafiras

Another roundabout that is saturated with traffic is the Oroteanda-Las Chafiras roundabout, in San Miguel de Abona, still in full execution of a work that also includes the expansion of the third lane of the TF-1.

Dámaso Arteaga explained that this work will be completed throughout 2024, although he noted that “in January or February the lane towards Los Cristianos can be completed.” Likewise, he mentioned the action on the roundabout that leads to the Golf del Sur, a historic demand of the mayor of San Miguel, Arturo González.
