City Council and Education will make improvements to the IES Los Cristianos

The Los Cristianos Secondary Education Institute (IES), designed for 500 students and which has 1,200, requires solutions to the problem of overcrowding, the lack of space and the deterioration of the center, as well as implementing new training cycles. The Arona City Council and the Department of Education of the Arona are committed to this. Government of the Canary Islandsannounces the Consistory.

Expanding the institute is one of the demands of the Aronero municipal government not only to adapt it to the real student census (it exceeds its capacity by 140%), but it will allow eliminate modular classrooms (barracks) that complement the current construction. Providing shade for the adjacent sports field and implementing new training cycles in the afternoon are other priority requests that the regional Minister of Education, Hipólito Suárez, picks up after visiting the institute, which he says is “in a deplorable state.”

In it he was accompanied by the mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes; Fernando Miñarro, general director of Infrastructure and Equipment of the Government of Canary Islands; Clari Pérez, Councilor for the Environment, Sustainability and Public Services; Héctor Reyes, mayor of Education, and Samira Tela, director of IES Los Cristianos.

Poli Suárez revealed that the Ministry’s commitment “is to be next to the municipalities, because we understand that by supporting the mayors there is that direct connection with the educational community. We must go hand in hand to improve the educational quality of the students and be together with the teaching and non-teaching staff, to facilitate this important work that they do every day.

Claims

Fátima Lemes took advantage of the meeting “to demand every need that Primary, Secondary and Secondary schools have. Vocational training. Education in Arona has been in a situation of neglect and abandonment for many years, as can be seen at the IES Los Cristianos. The Aron mayor pointed out the opening of the IES Montaña de Guaza as the time to “focus the projects” to have, “in the medium term”, a new Vocational Training center. «From the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Tenerife They are very receptive and we are already working together to solve Arona’s shortcomings in this matter.

The Councilor for Education, Héctor Reyes, highlighted that “the visit has been very productive, because we wanted the counselor and his team to see in first person the importance that its educational centers have for Arona and the shortcomings that we have found, both for the students as for teachers and non-teaching staff. The councilor pointed out as an objective «offer, with the greatest guarantees, quality education so that our young people can train and develop in the municipality. We have needs that have been in demand for a long time and our work is aimed at finding and executing solutions, involving institutions and the educational community.

Samira Tela, director of IES Los Cristianos, highlighted the fact that Education has verified the situation of the center and highlighted the receptiveness of the counselor, “even providing different solutions for problems such as space, shadow for Physical Education, for our Baccalaureate of Art… We believe that now there are solutions that can move forward.
