Damage to the image of tourist destinations in the south of Tenerife, reinforcement of illegal organizations that import fake products, labor exploitation of manteros, job destruction and unfair competition. These are some of the consequences of the street sale of counterfeit products, which has been proliferating on the coast of the region, mainly in the municipalities of Arona and Adeje, in spaces such as Playa de las Américas.

These are some of the questions raised by the Círculo de Empresarios del Sur de Tenerife (CEST) to the Civil Guard in a meeting that was made public yesterday and that occurs after informing the authorities of the situation of street vending in the South, as this newspaper has denounced, echoing the complaints of the merchants themselves, as well as different associations.

Previously, the CEST sent letters to both the municipalities of Arona and Adeje, as well as to the Government Subdelegation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, from which some operations against street sales and fake products from different, and well-known, have been derived. brands. Added to this is the increase in illegal activities in public spaces, such as illegal kiosks selling excursions without any type of permit, which were removed by the Arona City Council. The CEST made public yesterday its meeting with the chief commander of the Playa de Las Américas Civil Guard, Leonardo Rey Rodríguez, and Lieutenant Ricardo Marrero Fumero, in which they expressed “the concerns of the business community and society of the region. It is important that we are all aligned,” added this organization.

For this entity, “the increase in criminal organizations, the import and sale of counterfeit products, labor exploitation, job destruction, damage to the tourist image and unfair competition to companies that do comply with the law are just some of the consequences of the sale of counterfeit products that proliferates in the South.” “An illegal activity – adds the Círculo – that has been reported for years and has led the CEST to request that the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands investigate it thoroughly.”
