Clavijo vindicates the Government’s “firm commitment” to the two public universities of the Canary Islands

He president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo Batllehe stressed this Wednesday the commitment of the autonomous government to public university education by renew the support of all administrations Canary Islands to the public universities of the archipelago. At the solemn opening ceremony of the new 2023-2024 school year at the University of La LagunaFernando Clavijo reiterated the “firm bet” of the Government of the Canary Islands to contribute to the promotion of educational quality, university research work and the transfer of knowledge from researchers to companies and society. “The university is a key element for the future of the Canary Islands and we are going to work together to put the future on the agenda of the present,” said the president.

In the central auditorium of the University of La Laguna, the solemn opening ceremony of the 202-2024 academic year included the interventions of the rector of La Laguna, Francisco García, and the professor of Financial Economics and Accounting, Dr. Urbano Medina Hernández, who highlighted the challenges faced by society and the role played by the two public universities of the Canary Islands. In this sense, Fernando Clavijo agreed with the two university representatives in the role of “key actor” of higher education centers and vindicated the commitment of the Government he presides with the creation of the Department of Universities, Knowledge and Culturewhose owner Migdalia Machín attended the opening along with the rector of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Lluís Serra Majem; and the president of the Social Council of the ULL, María Dolores Pelayo Duque.
