The Mayorazgo Fitness company manages the El Mayorazgo Sports Complex, in La Orotava, after the transfer of the concession contract by Canaragua, and the approval of the Plenary Session of the City Council as it is a municipal facility.

The file has all the legal and technical reports that accredit the change to the new entity, specialized in sports management, and that will invest two million euros in improving the facilities and services, which will have a positive impact on the center and the users. .

The sports infrastructure was inaugurated in 2011 and at that time the concession was awarded to a joint venture made up of the company Núñez, Canaragua and Innova Canarias. The latter, with experience in the matter, is the one who would be in charge of managing the complex. But due to the damage caused by the economic crises, the UTE was dissolved and since 2013 Canaragua was forced to take over management.

The situation of sports infrastructure worsened in 2020 and 2021 due to the economic crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This had an impact on the decrease in users and, therefore, on greater economic losses that forced, on more than one occasion, the City Council to inject money from the municipal coffers to mitigate them. As indicated by the Plenary, it was the only way to help the company that already had a 60-year concession and had lowered rates.

Despite its situation, “Canaragua paid 100% of the salaries to the employees,” emphasizes the mayor, Francisco Linares, who adds that it must also be taken into account that currently, of the 3,000 users of the complex, about 1,500 are elderly people. of the municipality who pay a minimum fee.

For all this, the president asserts that “it is good news that a specialized company now assumes management and contributes a significant investment to update, condition and improve the infrastructure, without affecting the City Council or the users in any way, with a figure correct administrative”. “We are only saving the management of a complex from which many people benefit and this formula is the best possible with which to begin a new cycle,” he insists.
