Last July, the Santa Cruz City Council launched Phase 1 of the works that will remodel and transform the appearance of La Rosa street and that will be the first step for the rehabilitation of the El Toscal neighborhood, as announced by the mayor José Manuel Bermúdez, who announced that the work on the entire street will be completed in 24 months. The works are progressing at a good pace and access to shops and homes is guaranteed through the sidewalks.
The rehabilitation project of this important road in the center of the capital will be carried out in eight phases, which will be carried out in the direction of traffic, that is, starting from Almeida. The current Phase 1 will last approximately 4 months, and includes the section between the San Isidro road and El Pasaje Segundo Ravina, as well as the intersections with El Saludo and Gaspar Fernández streets. The next phase will not begin until this one is finished, except for minor details that can be completed without affecting traffic.
“This execution -as explained by the Councilor for Works, Javier Rivero- aims to remodel La Rosa street, adapting it to an accessible space for all types of users, thereby revitalizing the commercial areas and the attractiveness of the road” and details that ” the different phases of these works will allow, once completed, to have an accessible itinerary, adapted for pedestrians and with an obvious commercial attraction through the center of the city, from the Nuestra Señora de África Market to the Almeida barracks”.
On the other hand, the technicians explain that more than thirty car parks and an information telephone number (680 203 418) have been set up for residents and merchants, in order to constantly maintain communication with each of the areas where Go acting, precisely to go solving, directly, the incidents that may occur in a work of this magnitude. At the same time, it was reported that the City Council is studying various alternatives to generate parking spaces in the medium and long term in the area.
The cost of this project represents an investment of 4,385,000 euros, of which the subsidy granted by the European Next Generation funds (within the call for the Low Emission Zone-LEZ) represents a contribution of 1,719,156.20 euros , at the same time that it is important to highlight that, in the future, the implementation of the ZBE will give residents priority to use the surface car parks in the area.
