The 15th of August, great day of the Virgin of Candelaria, has left this Tuesday a massive demonstration of tradition and faith in Candelaria. The old motto for the festivities in honor of the Morenita that All roads lead to Candelaria. People from all municipalities and of very different ages gathered in an act that is special every year.
The day is not that it started early, but that it continued without interruption from the day before. The Basilica It was open all night and thousands of pilgrims were arriving at any time. The time was propitious for it. In the morning it was the turn of the Guancheria, Los Realejos, and the XXXII Athletic Floral Offering to the Virgin of Candelaria. This march started from La Granja park, in Santa Cruz, and each participating runner delivered a bouquet of flowers to La Morenita.
The civic procession left from the Town Hall to the Plaza de la Patrona de Canary Islandswhile 11:30 a.m. was scheduled the military parade and the reception of the representative of the king of Spain, a responsibility that this year fell on the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo. It was followed by the Eucharistic celebration presided over by the bishop, Bernardo Álvarez, and the subsequent procession of the Virgin around the square.
