The Las Galletas road through El Fraile reopened to traffic

The Arona Town Hall and the Highway Service of the Cabildo de Tenerife reopened to traffic the section of the TF-66 highway that runs between the towns of El Fraile and Las Galletas. The closure occurred on Sunday as a preventive measure taking into account that the strong waves that have affected during the last days the area affected the road, which was flooded and with silence from the beach of this aronero nucleus.

The closure of that section of the island highway was also applied to the coastal walk of Las Galletas “because the safety of neighbors and visitors is above all else», said then the Councilor for Security, Alexis Gómez.

This point of the road network was damaged by another storm on August 20, 2021, when part of the promenade that runs next to the track collapsed due to the action of the sea. In fact, the island government declared emergency works to repair the area, where the retaining wall collapsed. Work began on September 6 of the same year with a budget of 178,873 euros.

The work, by Council of Tenerifeincluded the execution of a retaining wall with the purpose of giving stability to the pedestrian promenade and to the road itself when passing through this point of entry and exit to the south of Las Galletas. The area of the road that collapsed was also filled in. In fact, while the work was being carried out, intermittent closures were recorded.

The TF-66 is a road that connects the middle of Arona with the coast. The same part from the roundabout located on the general highway of the South (TF-28) at the height of Cruz del Guanche, and reaches the Las Galletas nucleus, through the link of the South Highway (TF-1) through Guaza .

The closure of the road between El Fraile and Las Galletas was one of the effects of the strong waves on the southern coast of the Island. In the case of Arona, it even closed its beaches, keeping in use, with a yellow flag, a part of Las Vistas and another of Los Cristianos. El Granadilla, La Tejita beach was also closed due to the ravages of the sea, while in El Médano the closure of the beaches was linked to the presence of microalgae, on one occasion, and to wastewater discharges on another. Normality is already the tonic on the coast of the southern region.
